헬싱키에 소재한 핀란드 국립문화박물관(Museum of Cultures, National museum of Finland)에서 2007년 4월 3일부터 12월 31일까지 “Korean Home – The Way of Living”이라는 전시명으로 한국문화를 소개하는 전시회가 열리고 있습니다. 박물관 홈페이지에서는 이 전시와 관련하여 다음과 같이 소개하고 있습니다:

KOREAN HOME – THE WAY OF LIVING

The exhibition Korean home – The Way of Living presents the culture of South Korea, which still is relatively unknown to the Finns. It is curated by a Korean textile artist, Amie Ann (Ae-Kyung An), who has been living in Finland for years and has done a lot of work in promoting cultural relations between Finland and South Korea. When visiting South Korea with her Finnish friends and exploring the countryside and the temples she has learnt to see her homeland from a new perspective.

Natural materials – wood, clay and paper – are present in various ways in the exhibition. Visitors are exposed to the theme of the Korean home: traditional housing conditions but not forgetting the present day urban living. The interior reconstruction of the artisan Bong-Hee Yu’s anbang or woman’s room is also set up in the exhibition. Korean cuisine is presented through imposing onggi clay vessels and tea sets with low wooden tables. Today’s design has been inspired by traditional handicrafts and way of living, shown in the works of many Korean designers. The prominent mountains and Buddhism, which still acts an important role in people’s lives, build up the framework for the Korean culture.

In addition to the objects and the impressive photographs by Gosinga Kim South Korean culture is introduced through a video filmed by Kati Åberg. It follows three individuals, a Buddhist monk, a knot artisan Yu-Bong Hee and a young woman from Soul for one day.

Exhibition design is by Suunnittelutoimisto Amerikka.

The exhibition is supported by Art Council Korea, Korea Foundation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Korea), Sonoann Organization and Timberwise Oy.

이번에 제가 핀란드를 방문한 것은 이 전시회 오픈식에 참여하기 위한 것이었습니다. 박물관 홈페이지에서 “the objects and the impressive photographs by Gosinga Kim”이라고 소개된 대목에서 알 수 있듯, 제가 “Gosinga Kim”이라는 이름으로 전시회 공간을 장식하는 다수의 사진을 제공했기 때문입니다. 아마 Gosinga Kim이라는 이름이 낯설지는 않겠지요? 외국인들이 부르기 편하고, 또 제가 추구하는 정신성과도 잘 맞는 듯하여 이 이름을 썼습니다.

어찌보면 이 전시회를 계기로 좀더 사진에 진지하게 접근하게 된 셈입니다. 이제 출발인 것입니다. 이 출발점에 서면서 그동안 블로그에 공개했던 사진들을 모두 정리하게 되었습니다. 향후 좀더 깔끔하게 정돈하여 다시 공개하도록 하겠습니다. 그동안 제 사진을 두고 많은 격려를 해 주셨던 분들께 감사를 드립니다.

이 전시회에 대한 상세한 내용과 헬싱키와 그 근교를 여행하면서 배운 점들은 다음 기회에 소개하도록 하겠습니다.
